Missions Rationale
Why We Have A Missions Ministry

Jesus' Command

Jesus still commands us to tell others the Good News and make disciples for His Kingdom. When Jesus gave the Great Commission, it was not solely for the Jewish people but for "all":

Matthew 28:16-20 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountains where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshipped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said: "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age".

Being Totally Devoted To Jesus

The Lord promises to meet our needs and did not mean he would meet all our desires in life. He never said it would be easy, but he did promise he would be with us always. As Christ followers we need to be totally devoted to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior:

Luke 14:27 "Whoever does not carry the cross and follow me, cannot be my disciple".

Luke 12:34 "Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also".

Romans 12:2 "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God - what is good, acceptable and perfect".

The Hands And Feet For Christ

We are to be hands and feet for Christ. At Hillside Community Church we would not want to have the peace and comfort of eternal life, and not give others the opportunity to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior:

Romans 10:13 "For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord, shall be saved. But how are they to call on one in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in one of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone to proclaim him? And how are they to proclaim him unless they are sent. As it is written; How beautiful are the feet of those who bring Good News."

Not Saved By Works, But By Grace

Here at Hillside Community Church, our mission is to reach those within the church, outside the church, within the community, the State, the Nation and Worldwide.

We are not saved by works, but by His Grace. And in order for each of us to know what He wants for our life, we are to have a beautiful relationship with Him. In order to accomplish this relationship we must read and study His word.

Paul wrote in Colossians 1:9-20 "For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might, so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the Saints in the Kingdom of light. For he has revues us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the Kingdom of the son he lives, in whom we have redemption, for the forgiveness of sins".

The Harvest Is Plentiful

Many people are ready to give their lives to Christ if someone would just share with them the Good News. Also, many are willing to be laborers for Christ if one would just show them.

Matthew 9:37,38 "then Jesus said to his disciples, the Harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few, therefore ask the Lord of Harvest to send out laborers in his Harvest field".

The Lord Will Not Forget Our Work For His Kingdom

At HCC we are encouraged to evaluate ourselves and see what it is that we are personally doing for the Lord and His Kingdom. We ask ourselves if we are busy with our own agendas or are we busy doing the Lord's business?

Hebrews 6:10-12 "For God is not unjust. He will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, in order to make your hope sure. We do not want you to become sluggish, but to imitate those who through faith and patience inherit what has been promised".

Be Effective For Christ

We must always look up toward Christ rather than look around us. We can become discouraged when we face the world around us... so we must always face ahead and focus on our Heavenly Father the Lord Jesus Christ and know that all is according to His plan and promises.

2 Peter 1:3-9 "His Devine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Thus he has given us, through these things, his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may escape from the corruption that is in the world because of lust, and may become participants of the Devine nature. For this very reason, you may make every effort to support your faith with goodness, and goodness with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with endurance, and endurance with godliness, and godliness with mutual affection, and mutual affection with love. For if these things are yours and are increasing among you, they keep you from being ineffective and unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ". NRSV
